Your FAQ's Answered

  • What if my child HATES math?
You're in luck! We specialize in turning math reluctance into enthusiasm. Our tutors patiently help students build confidence and teach them how to learn, most often leading to a positive shift in attitude.
  • How do we decide how much tutoring is needed and which tutor to work with?
First we want to match your child with a tutor whose personality and skills best fit their needs. Availability and budget considerations are also key factors. We offer a range of tutors with different skills and price points. Ultimately we’ll work together to determine the best package based on your child's availability, the urgency of progress, and your budget.
  • Do you offer group sessions?
We primarily focus on one-on-one instruction but are open to group classes if a suitable group is presented to us. Students must be at the same level and able to be instructed together.
  • What if my child has ADHD, Dyslexia, or Dyscalculia?
ADHD: Many of our students have ADHD, and we've developed effective techniques to keep them focused. The RightStart Curriculum, with its multi-sensory activities and engaging, game-based lessons, is particularly well-suited for students with ADHD. Dyslexia: RightStart was designed with dyslexic learners in mind. Math, like reading, is a language that can be challenging for dyslexic students. Our approach includes purposeful, explicit, and multi-sensory instruction, ensuring mastery before moving on. Dyscalculia: Dyscalculia, a math-specific learning difference, is another area where our tutors excel. We use specialized strategies to help your child make significant progress, even if they’ve struggled with math in the past.
  • Do you tutor Algebra and other subjects?
Yes, we have tutors skilled in secondary and college-level math, though our focus is primarily on elementary age students. Several of our tutors are also experienced classroom teachers who can help with other subjects, including reading. We also have tutors trained in the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Just let us know what you're looking for and we'll create a custom plan to meet your needs.
  • What if we start and my child isn't connecting with their tutor?
Please contact us immediately if issues arise. We’ll work to address your concerns and find a better match if necessary.
  • Have you taught "........." curriculum?
Our team is very well versed with experience in about 10-15 different curriculums. If you're unsure what's best or haven’t chosen a curriculum yet, we highly recommend considering RightStart Mathematics 2 (RSM2).
  • Do we have to use RightStart materials?
No you don't, but we prefer RightStart Mathematics (RSM2) for its effectiveness. We can teach any curriculum but may incorporate some RSM2 methods. *Please consider using our affiliate link if purchasing RSM materials. Thank you!
  • What items do we need to get started?
Your student will need a computer with video camera and access to the internet. We offer a quick "Tech Check" prior to your first scheduled session if needed. Otherwise, math specific materials will depend on the curriculum we choose for your child. For RightStart Mathematics: Student worksheet book and manipulative kit Basic composition book for math guide Secondary device (e.g., smartphone) with Zoom installed for the additional required camera view Camera mounting arm (gooseneck or elbow-style)
  • What if we miss a session due to sickness or unforeseen circumstances?
We ask that you do your best to provide at least 24 hours' notice for rescheduling or credit. Less notice may result in the session being charged or rescheduled at the tutor’s discretion based on circumstances.
  • Are there discounts for multiple students or sessions per week?
Our Tier 1 tutors offer discounts for 4+ sessions per week (can be shared among family members). Tier 2 and Tier 3 tutors do not offer additional discounts as their rates are already reduced to make quality tutoring affordable.
  • Do you offer scholarships or a sliding scale?
We understand that not every family can easily afford the tutoring that their child needs. There are local resources like ESA accounts or school district programs for assistance that we recommend you look into. We are also easily able to set up invoicing directly with third parties (e.g., family, friends, etc.) willing to contribute. We are also in the early stages of developing a non-profit scholarship program. Please reach out to be included on our student waitlist for when funds become available.
